How To Completely Uninstall Software From Your PC

The following are some of the common reasons why you may want to uninstall a software from your computer:

    * You do not need to use the software anymore.
    * There is some problem with the software you are trying to use.
    * You are unable to update the software.
    * The software is taking too much space on your computer due to which your computer is slowing down.

There are many different methods which you can use to remove programs from your computer. In this article, we are going to introduce some of the common methods.

Add or Remove Programs

The Add or Remove Programs utility that opens from the Control Panel or by running the appwiz.cpl command is one of the most common methods that Windows users use to uninstall programs. When you open the Add or Remove Programs utility, the currently installed programs list is displayed. From this list, you may select the programs you want to uninstall and then select the Change/Remove or Remove button to launch the selected programs uninstaller. For example, to remove Acrobat Reader, select the Acrobat Reader option to launch the [1] Acrobat uninstaller.

A few Windows programs, such as Windows Media Player 10 beta or 11 are installed as Windows updates. To perform [1] Windows Media Player uninstall or to uninstall any other Windows update, select the Show Updates check box and then select the update you want to remove.

Program Uninstallers

At times, it is not possible to completely remove programs using Add or Remove Programs. This usually happens because the program you are trying to remove is quite large and the utility fails to remove all related information from the computer. To ensure complete removal of these programs, the software manufacturer usually makes available additional program uninstaller tools on their web sites. This is the reason why the best way to remove large programs is to use these program uninstallers. For example, the best way to perform [1] Norton Internet Security removal is to use the Norton Removal tool that is available on the Norton Website.

Third-party Uninstaller

Not all programs make an entry in the Add or Remove Programs. Additionally, there might be programs with corrupt uninstallers that you may not be able to remove using the Add or Remove Programs. To help you get rid of such programs there are several third-party program uninstallers available today. You can search for and download a reliable uninstaller tool from the Internet and then run it to ensure complete removal of the programs you are trying to get rid of. One recommendation is Revo Uninstaller which seems to do a very good job removing orphan dll and other remnants from your PC. It does have a little bit of a learning curve, but is well worth the effort!

Antispyware

Spyware and adware programs may come bundled with freeware and software programs you download to your PC and stealthily install themselves. These are malicious programs that are known to add several files and registry entries that make them practically non-removable. To get rid of these programs completely, you need to use a good antispyware tool. You must update this tool with the latest definitions and then run a full system scan to ensure that all spyware files and registry entries are removed from the system.

In addition to using the above methods to completely remove software from your PC, it is recommended that after you perform a program removal, you follow up the activity with a thorough registry scan and clean up with the help of a reliable registry cleaner tool. This will help you eliminate any orphaned or empty registry keys that may get left behind and ensure yourself a compact and healthy registry.
